Long Time, No See! - Where have I been?
Long time, no see! ☹
I have sincerely
missed writing and there are several topics that I cannot wait to write and share
with you. I’d like to thank everyone for reading and supporting my last post, it
was amazing to hear the perspective of a student radiographer. The “Being a
Therapeutic Radiographer – The Highs and The Lows” post was featured on the
website “I See the Difference”, a platform to help aspiring radiographers
understand what being a therapeutic radiographer is like.
So, what have I been
busy doing that I haven’t been writing and posting? I have been developing
myself professionally, moving house as well as planning for Cancer Education
UK’s first women’s support event “Beauty Despite Cancer”. The event is to
encourage, inspire, help and educate women who have gone through or are
currently going through cancer treatment to feel beautiful and like themselves
again.
Being a healthcare professional, I know that while
being on cancer treatment, there are certain changes that happen in a woman’s
body; from dry or itchy skin to hormone imbalance, sweats and hot flushes.
Apart from these changes, women who have had a lumpectomy or mastectomy go
through not only physical but also physiological, emotional and self-confidence
issues that are not necessarily addressed or tackled, hence most women learn to
soldier through or brush it under the carpet.
Such changes can
cause women to either isolate themselves or avoid social engagements due to
lack of confidence and low self-esteem, subsequent to their womanhood being “removed”.
Therefore, we deemed it fit to spark conversation about beauty despite cancer!
During the event, we
will be hearing from a panel of eight women who have battled different types of
cancer such as leukaemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, breast, lung and cervical cancer. How
can we help these women if we do not hear from them and learn from their
experiences?
Whether you’re a
cancer survivor, a relative of someone going through cancer treatment, a
student, a healthcare professional or an individual who wishes to be equipped to
help others when the opportunity arises, join us on the 7th of March
The event is also in
line with International Women’s Day (IWD 2020), so Join us in celebrating
womanhood!
With Love,
Mary xxx
